I know you’ve all seen the news, that our town of Slidell as well aS the rest of the gulf coast, got hit very hard by hurricane Isaac. Though it was only a cat 1 storm, it stalled while part of it was on land, which caused major flooding issues. We were stuck inside for two and a half days, but the kids did really well considering!
Preparing for a hurricane always means 2 things for me, cleaning and shopping for food. Preparation is key, right? Lol
My pantry was stocked with some not so great for you foods, but foods that would last in case we were trapped.
We baked and cooked a lot.. What else do you do when you’re stuck inside?! We were blessed enough to not have lost power either, I’m so grateful for that…
We made southwest chicken wraps..
Chocolate chip cookies..
Red beans & rice, brownies, cupcakes..
And my hubs always makes the best breakfast burritos!
The kids had some major iPad time..
Can you believe she’s 16 months and knows how to swipe her finger across this thing? She learns fast from her bubba..
We played legos..
We even celebrated a few birthdays… 🙂
We REALLY did well through this hurricane. There are so many STILL without power and have been since Tuesday! Our lights flickered a few times, but we never actually lost power. God was gracious for sure. Â The only damage we really incurred was to our boys trampoline, which was actually really sad to me. So many memories on it! But again, we were spared soooo much.
The day after the storm we went driving and it really put things into perspective. I knew things were bad in areas near New Orleans, but even in Slidell, there were flooded homes. So so sad. Still praying for those affected.
And then what do I see? A beautiful sky and a gorgeous sunset to end another day. It’s no coincedence that the DAY OF the hurricane, I read this in my devotional..
